Marie Smets, born in 1944, lives in Etterbeek and is retired. Came to live in Brussels at 14 to work in a butcher's shop. She became caretaker of a school, to which she is still attached. She saw four generations of children pass through. She talks very extensively about the theatre in Brussels, the Six Days of Brussels, Expo 58, the evening newspapers and kiosks, Innovation, the Flower Carpet, and so on. For her, Brussels has deteriorated in terms of cleanliness, bilingualism and friendliness. Her questions to the future are about cleanliness, neighbourhood work and technology.
